Over 450 Kids Participate in Olympic Day in June

Olympic Day Participant Signs Olympic Day Flag

The celebration of Olympic Day was held by CXC Skiing, Saturday, June 27  from 9am to 1pm at the DreamBank in Madison, WI right off the Capital Square and during the same hours of the infamous Farmers Market. A beautiful and busy day on the Capital Square, brought a crowd of over 450 kids who participated in the Olympic Day celebration!

Olympic Day is an international effort to promote fitness and well-being, and inspire some gold medal-worthy dreams! Participants had a chance to meet University of Wisconsin Madison Alumni, Olympian Eric Mueller, a Silver Medalist for Rowing in the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, GA as well as test their ice IQ by scoring hockey goals, trying their hand at a curling station, experience the ski erg and a simulated downhill ski run. When participants completed the challenges, they earned an official Olympic Day medal and could sign the Olympic Day flag!

The CXC Skiing celebration of Olympic Day was one of more than 700 events taking place nationwide between June 14 and 30. The events, designed to engage youth and promote the ideals of the Olympic movement, feature athlete appearances, family-friendly activities and interactive learning experiences.

Around the world, more than 160 countries take part in the annual celebration. Olympic Day, created in 1948 to commemorate the birth of the modern Olympic Games, focuses on the Olympic values and ideals such as fair play, perseverance, respect and sportsmanship. In the U.S., Olympic Day events range from small gatherings to large, city-wide events.
