The 2015-2016 CXC Team

The CXC Team has several veterans on the roster along with a few new racers as well. The Team is excited to add even more depth to the team as they approach race season.

Kyle Bratrud
SuperTours & International Competition, 1st Year

Kyle Bratrud is a 4 time NCAA All American. Bratrud was a member of the Junior World team in 2013 in the Czech Republic and the U23 World Team in Almaty, Kazakhstan in 2015. He also represented the United States at the World Championships in Falun, Sweden in 2015.

Nichole Bathe
Collegiate & NCAA Racer, 4th Year

Nichole got into skiing after Yuriy Gusev, CXC Executive Director, opened the Russian style ski school in Madison, WI which her dad frequently attended and decided to bring her along. After a couple of year tagging along with her dad she began to stop other sports and solely focus on skiing.

Andrew Brown
Marathons, 2nd Year

A Minnesota native, Andrew Brown grew up skiing out his front door at Como Park on wood skis and three pin bindings. His first pair of skate skis were fishscales he took a belt sander to. Biking on old ten speeds, downhill skiing, and plenty of ice skating gave Andy a good leg up when he started racing in 10th grade.

Hilary Patzer
Marathons, 3rd Year

Hilary spent most of her childhood weekends in Sun Valley, ID exploring the mountains and surrounding areas, camping and waterskiing with her family. She competed for the Sun Valley Ski Education Foundation and then Middlebury College in Vermont and was a two-time NCAA Division I All American Nordic Ski Racer.

Cory Ellertson
Marathons, 2nd Year

Cory took an unusual path to cross country ski racing. He grew up playing hockey in Albert lea, MN and once his hockey career was over after college, he needed to find a new way to be active. Cory’s dad was a professional nordic skier back in the 90’s for Team Birkie and qualified for the Olympic trials in 92 and 94. In 2012, he borrowed some of his old equipment and taught himself to ski at Elm Creek.

Nicolette Reker
Marathons, 2nd Year

When Nicolette was six years old her parents bought a cabin in Seeley, WI just one mile from the OO Birkie Trailhead. At the time her and her family were strictly mountain bikers looking for a weekend getaway to ride, but little did they know they were purchasing their cabin in the heart of the Midwest Nordic community. The Reker family quickly picked up and fell in love with the sport as it was a perfect offset to summer riding and an excellent way to enjoy their winters.

Duncan Douglas
Marathons, 2nd Year

Duncan decided to try Nordic skiing his sophomore year of college where he qualified for NCAAs as a 1st year skier. Shortly after, he took a leave of absence to pursue a career in Biathlon where he quickly moved up the ranks, qualifying for the National Team in 1988 and later went on to the Winter Olympic Teams and the World Cup Circuit.

Alice Flanders
SuperTours & Marathons, 1st Year

Along with skiing, Alice was also a successful competitive swimmer and received a National Champion title in Marathon Canoe racing. As part of her cross training she continues to participate in these sports and from time to time enters into triathlons throughout the Midwest.

Chris Pappathopoulos
Marathons, 2nd Year

Chris skied a couple of times as a kid on his grandparents farm and once in college, but otherwise didn’t get into the sport until moving back to Wisconsin at 27 years of age. Since then he has been trying to make for up lost time.

Natalia Naryshkina
SuperTours & Marathons, 3rd Year

Natalia Naryshkina grew up in St. Petersburg, Russia where her love for skiing developed 23 years ago. Her father first initiated her to try cross country skiing in 5th grade, because he could see she had the potential to succeed in the sport when she was beating older kids she competed against.

Abbie Drach
Junior National Qualifiers & U.S. Nationals, 1st Year

Abbie joined the Loppet Nordic Racing Competition Team, led by Coach Piotr Bednarski, the summer before her senior year of high school. In 2015, she competed for the first time at U.S. Nationals, Junior Nationals, and the 2015 U18 Scandinavian Championships.  Abbie is currently taking a gap year in order to become an improved skier and pursue educational opportunities.

Nick Power
Marathons, 1st Year 

I started skiing when I was 13 years old, primarily as a cross training tool for running. I eventually grew to like it more and decided to make it my primary sport. When I’m not skiing or training, I really enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also am quite a trout- fishing enthusiast. I will often spend my days off of work and training fishing for trout in the North Woods of the Minnesota Arrowhead.
