CXC Youth Cup and Skiwerx Series a Success

With the conclusion of the Midwest Junior Championships, the CXC Youth Cup, as well as the Skiwerx Series (Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan) have released their final point rankings.

Congratulations to all of the skiers that participated and gained valuable experiences in these events!

The Minnesota Skiwerx Series, which is overseen by the Minnesota Youth Ski League (MyXC), is in its eighth year and is a Minneapolis based youth series for U10, U12 and U14 racers.

MyXC is working to create similar local youth racing models in Wisconsin and Michigan and have released beta Skiwerx Series in these states as well.

The advantages of linking these opportunities are two-fold.

We create consistent, high-quality youth age group events by working with existing race organizers and training new Youth Technical Delegates.

And we work with clubs to give kids appropriate introductions to the sport of cross country skiing at the optimal age through the networking of events and the systematic concepts of teaching racing and training skills. Skiing for Sport is our goal for this age group.

Once a young skier has experienced quality local events, they are ready for the CXC Youth Cup. This series is a regional (three-state) series for U12 and U14 (ages 10-13) racers. The CXC Youth Cup, in its third year, is preparing athletes for future junior racing.

And we are delighted to see how well prepared our U16 racers are becoming, with many first year U16s qualifying for national level trips this year.

Our showcase weekend, the Midwest Junior Championships and Festival, was a great success and included events for U8-U16 age groups.

There were two individual racing events (Individual start classic and mass start skate), Ski X time trials, team sprints, a four-person coed relay and a festival!

This event is a fantastic experience for first-time racers as well as seasoned youth racers because it is 100% focused on kids and fun.

We had over 250 racers and 250 festival skiers this year, for the very best Midwest Junior Championships and Festival we’ve ever had. This event is truly the highlight of winter. We had extra inspiration from Jessie Diggins (MyXC alumnae) and saw lots of relay socks and glitter!”
