Cross Country Skiing Focus of Military Wellness Camp in Rice Lake

Health and wellness for American soldiers is the focus of a Central Cross Country Skiing (CXC) weekend camp August 3-5 in Rice Lake, Wisconsin.

The camp, produced by CXC together with Rice Lake’s 4591 Sports Development club and Out There Nordic Sports, is specifically designed to promote the health and wellness of able-bodied and disabled veterans and members of the National Guard.

The camp is free for any current or veteran military.

The National Guard and American Veterans Wellness Camp is designed to expose participants to the fundamental building blocks for  developing and maintaining fitness, endurance and nutrition. Participants will be exposed to dryland training, roller skiing, and cross training activities. The intention of the camp weekend is to inspire and excite American veterans about exercise and active lifestyles.

The camp is just one of many CXC activities for veterans including regular programs at Veteran’s Administration hospitals in Chicago, Milwaukee and Minneapolis.

“It has been exhilarating to see how veterans and current military respond to these programs based around cross country skiing,” said CXC Executive Director Yuriy Gusev. “Our camp in Rice Lake allows us to bring this opportunity to northwestern Wisconsin thanks to the support of our CXC partners 4591 Sports Development and Out There Nordic Sports.”

The program will be under the leadership of CXC Coach Bruce Manske and 4591 Sports Development Coach Bjorn Hanson, along with other invited coaches and sport trainers.

“We have a wealth of military in our region of Wisconsin,” said Hanson. “This is an opportunity with our 4591 Sports Development club program to help our military service personnel and to get them motivated about cross country skiing.”

The weekend camp will feature sessions related to athletic movements for speed, balance, agility, strength, mobility and power, including, dryland training, roller skiing, nordic hiking, biking and more. Athletic presentations will be featured each evening. Meals and snacks are included in the program; housing is on your own. Registration is limited to 30 persons with no cost for current or veteran service members.
